When I decided to move to Tucson to continue my education, I naturally had to acquire an apartment. After having lived in a spartan dorm room in New York for four years, and having grown up with dogs, I knew I wanted a pet. Given the idea of the apartment was to be a base for while I attended school / did part time work, I knew a dog would be irresponsible, inappropriate, and unfair. So I decided on a kitten.
I named the kitten before I met him, and I knew his characteristics: cute and stupid. I went to the shelter on September 17th, and looked at all of the kittens, before deciding on two of them, based on the behavior of one.
I wiggled my fingers at all of the kittens, and one small black one tried to bat at my finger. In his haste to chase my finger, he smacked his head on a shelf, and I knew it was fate.
And thus, Caboose was chosen, and his sister, Church, by proxy.
